Why a subscription model?

I was actually thinking of buying Foxyproxy plus until I saw something interesting: Its not a one time fee, its a subscription.
Why this kind of model? Foxyproxy is a product, and proucts get one time fee's. There is no other service provided, which is usally associated with a subscription.
