I am using FoxyProxy to bypass Websense for certain target URLs, and am having difficulty getting QuickAdd (or AutoAdd) to work.
The problem is that when Websense blocks a page, you are directed to a completely different URL. But QuickAdd (and AutoAdd) apply their patterns to the URL of the current page -- which does NOT include the blocked URL.
The blocked URL appears in the contents of the current page. It would be best if there were a way to apply the pattern to the page contents [post block] instead of the URL.
Another problem which I have encountered is that there is no way to manually "tweak" the pattern added by QuickAdd at add time. Even if you type something different into the dialog box, this is treated as a "what if" -- when you hit OK, the pattern added is driven only by the URL currently displayed.
Spidey!!!

QuickAdd and AutoAdd currently can only look in the address bar for the blocked URL. Looking for the blocked URL in the page content itself will be in a future release.

Pretty sure this is a bug. Can you give an example?
same thing for me
hi, thanks for all the efforts, i have something to add. i see the same problem here. when u are adding a pattern to your proxy settings, using either autoadd or quickadd, in the dialog where you are supposed to make the final modifications when prompted, when for instance you have chosen a template patten of *${6}/* and your url is www.yahoo.com, the generated pattern would be *www.yahoo.com/*, right? here if you make a slight modification and omit the www part for instance, to get the result for *yahoo.com/*, changes won't take effect and what's actually written to your setting will still be *www.yahoo.com/*
i guess that would be an example and hope you guys see into it :)
thanks a lot
Thanks. I'll fix it shortly.

Hi, These bugs are fixed in
Hi,
These bugs are fixed in FoxyProxy 2.8.6. Please upgrade. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Thanks,
Eric
Editing still not working
Just to echo what ideal4ever mentioned, the editing of autoadd still isn't working. I tried both 2.8.6 and the new 2.8.8 and the editing doesn't work in either one. Like the example stated above, using a pattern of *${6}/* the added pattern would be *www.yahoo.com/*, but when editing it to remove the leading www. so that it would be *yahoo.com/*, it still leaves it as *www.yahoo.com/* in the added pattern.
OK, back to the drawing
OK, back to the drawing board. I'll work on it some more, but I do know that a lot of related QuickAdd/AutoAdd bugs were definitely fixed. Sorry if I missed this particular one, and thanks for letting me know it's not fixed.
Hi, This has been fixed in
Hi,
This has been fixed in FoxyProxy 2.8.9. Please test and let me know if it works for you.
Thanks,
Eric
Thanks!
Eric,
Editing has been tested and is working now. Thanks for the quick fix. It is appreciated.
yay! thanks for following up
yay! thanks for following up with me.
Eric, i'm trying to use
Eric,
i'm trying to use foxyproxy to autoadd url's blocked by websense.
a strange thing happened today, when i updated to 2.8.9 ( previous versions' autoadd did not work at all for me):
i installed the extension at home, and autoadd worked!
then i install it at work and autoadd does not work!
work and home pc's have same OS (win xp sp2) and same firefox ( v 3.0.3 ).
then i created -at work- a fresh firefox profile with no extensions, only foxyproxy installed, and still autoadd does not work!.
is there a chance that autoadd fails, when the redirection page is in UTF-8 ?
if i look at the source of the page that the Websense filter sends me upon block, with ultraedit, it is coded in utf-8.
maybe search for the string does not work in non-ascii encoding?
but, autoadd failed to be
but, autoadd failed to be triggered even on other pages (not the response page by websense).
see an example:
i have 2 proxies: named FREE and BLOCKER.
FREE (is a little slower in speed of browsing) and has a whitelist of some urls that BLOCKER does not allow
and BLOCKER has a pattern = * to handle everything.
I put FREE first in the proxy list, and BLOCKER second
autoadd is enabled.
proxy to which patterns are auto loaded = FREE to its Whitelist
pattern to identify blocked websites = *meeting* (i assume every page containing this word will have to trigger the auto add)
pattern contains = wildcards
pattern to auto add = either i leave the default values here
or try the ${15} for entire url. Either of them fail.
then I go to http://www.pctechnology.gr/
where you see there is a header "The meeting point"
and nothing happens. autoadd does not add this site.
can you help?
Hi, yes, I will test this on
Hi, yes, I will test this on Monday. Sorry I don't have time this weekend. I'll write back next week.
Eric
*${6}/* pattern
*${6}/* pattern still shows *www.yahoo.com/* in the QuickAdd of 2.8.9. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling FoxyProxy but I have the same issue.
Thanks for your hard work! :D
