I thinks these 2 things aren't really related - if a Foxyproxy icon is shown it completely responses to any click you apply to it - Right-click, Middle-click or Left-click, whereas the problem described in the other posting refers to inability to access the menu at all. Anyway, I will add your request to Eric's to-do list.
It's possible, add the add-on-bar symbol in the URL-bar, or at least have a choice between add-on-bar and url-bar?
