is there any way to stop the annoying anotion icon in the status bar?
Sun, 07/12/2009 - 14:55 — kenken
I have just update to the newest version(2.11) of foxyproxy, but the anotion icon was really really annoying to me, is there any way to use the previous style?
thanks,
Ken
You can't get the old style (unsmooth animation), but you can disable animation easily. Open FoxyProxy. Open your Proxy Settings by double-clicking each item or clicking "Edit Seleciton". On the General tab, there is a checkbox "Animate icons when this proxy is in use." Uncheck it. That's it!
Could you possibly explain why you don't like the new icon? Perhaps I can adjust it or add some options for you to adjust it so that it's acceptable. Does it spin too fast? Too slow?
Hi Eric,
When I'm browsing, I don't want to be distract by flash icons/anotion icons, I just want to focus on the page content.
even I unchecked the "anotion..." option, the icon still flash(change color) when I open any page, that is a little bit annoying.
I understand. You can disable animation the way I described before (uncheck "Animate icons when theis proxy is in use" for all proxies). This definitely works; I just re-tested it. If you want the colors to all be the same, you can do that, too, so there's no color changes.
Hi Eric,
But if I change all proxy to the same icon color, I will not know if am surfing under a proxy like previous version does. I think the previous style was better.
thanks,
Ken
In previous version, if the icon is blue, I know I'm using a particular proxy for all urls, and if it's orange, I'm using proxies base on patterns.
In the new version, it sometimes turn in to blue even when no proxy is used in pattern mode(it's blue while I'm writing these, I don't use any proxy for this site), and If I select other tab and switch back to it, the icon will turn back to orange again, very strange.
I'm wondering if you could make the icon perminently blue if any proxy is used and indict it's name in tooltip, and perminently orange if no one is used.
As kenken said, animation is unnecessary too.

This is probably because there are URLs on this page that you do have patterns for (e.g., google adsense or something else). Check the FoxyProxy Logging tab to see exactly which URLs are loading through the blue proxy.

But the last version of FoxyProxy 2.9 didn't do this with tooltips. It changed the text of the statusbar as the proxy changed, whether you changed it using the mode change or it changed automatically because you were in patterns mode. So I think this tooltip feature you're asking for is a completely new feature, not reverting back to the old behavior.
As for the color permanently blue or orange based on mode, i'll have to think if that possible or not given the new color-per-proxy stuff.

I already provided instructions on how to disable animation no?
BUT, even I open 1 single tab/window/page, the page will not require proxy access, the icon will change colors too. and every time I open a new page(any page with no proxy needed/defined for the site), the icon will flash(change color) also.
I need example. Please provide:
1. Website URL
2. FoxyProxy patterns and FoxyProxy mode (e.g., "Use Proxy XXXX for all URLs" or "Use proxies based on their predefined patterns and priorities"
