Hey I just bought foxyproxy plus and I love it already. How can I have it select randomly from a group of proxies that I specify based on predefined patterns?
This is very crucial due to getting temp banned by G so many times for using SEO addons in Firefox.
thanks much
Travis
Hi, Are you looking to
Hi,
Are you looking to select proxies randomly, or randomly within some constraints? If the former, that should be available sometime soon--part of the implementation already exists in FoxyProxy, but it's not complete. I can't make any promises. Please do let me know what kind of "random" you mean.
Thanks,
eric
random
I really just mean a mode say call it "random" or "round robin" where it chooses from your list of proxies in that form, whichever form it might be.
What I meant by constraints is if lets say I have bought 10 proxies and I'd like to "protect" say 3 of them from not being in the "random" or "round robin" cycle just for the point of not getting them banned from whatever service I might be using.
That would require implementation of something like "proxy groups" or something like that. This would be a very very cool feature, but of course everything is done in steps and the randomness or round robin implementation is more important :)
I love foxyproxy alot and I know you are trying to get more people to buy it for all the work you do on it.
I'm in a membership site with various SEO people, and I am going to do a nice writeup in the forum about how this is a MUST HAVE, because well it is...
thanks!

Hi Travis, Thanks for the
Hi Travis,
Thanks for the compliments and the ideas. Yes, I'm trying to make a little money from something that has been an all-consuming 3-year hobby. Enough money to buy an ice cream cone for my kids once in a while would be nice :)
Please share the writeup once you've done it; I'd like to read it and would consider linking to it from the main FoxyProxy site.
So, concerning round-robin and random modes. There is significant support for both of them already written, but not completed. I will certainly add these to FoxyProxy Plus as soon as possible.
You are right about proxy groups--let's do this in steps so I don't get overwhelmed and throw up my arms in frustration :)
Eric
Just to confirm -- random
Just to confirm -- random and round-robin will be in FoxyProxy Plus but not FoxyProxy Standard.
haha
haha Ok Eric that sounds good, steps is a good thing :)
and yes I have my license of foxyproxy plus, best 15 bucks I ever spent. I mean I've only had it for like less than a week and it's already a godsend. A search engine tries to get frisky with me and its like... 'eh brush my shoulders off... right click bottom right of FF... grab a drink of ice tea.. back to work :)
and the username and password inquisition, wow. When I had foxy standard and I did not want to be on a proxy and open FF to start with, that annoying window asking me for my username and pw because it thinks I want to use a proxy but really that's just how it closed. Or even switching proxies enter username pw again blah blah... annoying.
More people will realize that power of this "little" addon, def the best FF addon to date, by far.
