Hi all,
I have read the page on why foxyproxy's settings look different from what Firefox users are used to, and I understand the rationale behind it. I just have a tiny problem with the limited options that foxyproxy gives me. See, I would normally use privoxy (as a http proxy) plus tor (as a socks5 proxy), so that http requests go through privoxy (and, by extension, tor) and dns requests can be routed through tor directly. For that to work I need to be able to specify different port numbers for http/https and socks5 proxies to be used simultaneously. This, unfortunately, is not possible in foxyproxy, I am forced to use either privoxy as a http proxy (dns requests would then be made directly) or tor as a socks5 proxy (robbing me of the additional functionality of privoxy). This EXOR decision is, imho, not justified by the above mentioned rationale versus Firefox's "obsolete" proxy settings interface. This also affects the "TOR wizard", which 1) pretends it can route dns requests through tor even when using privoxy and 2) doesn't ask for privoxy/tor's ip address rendering its initial configuration useless for me (privoxy/tor run on a different machine).
Maybe you could rethink your policy on the proxy settings. Again, I understand the rationale, but foxyproxy rightly prides itself on its configurability, yet it robs me of one of the most basic options that I need in my not so uncommon environment.
Thank you for the good work.
Hi, I need to think this
Hi,
I need to think this through. There are alternatives to bringing back the old interface, I am sure. I'll post again shortly with some ideas.
