iPlayer Live Streaming Issue

Ok so here is my issue. I have foxyproxy set up to play recorded content from iPlayer and it works flawlessly. I have tried to view live streams (bbc one for example) but I get the following error: 'This content doesn't seem to be working. Try again later.' I have tried entering in the proxy server in IE just to see what would happen and it worked, it was slow but it worked. Now for some reason I can't get this very same proxy server to work in Firefox. I've tried setting up the proxy up in foxyproxy and it does bypass the geo check but the live content seems to fail.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Dear Faceman, you were

Dear Faceman,

you were absolutely right saying the proxy helps you bypass geo check but fails to deliver actual live stream.

The problem here is that BBC uses slightly different technical approaches to deliver recorded content and live streams. Our proxies works flawlessly with stored content but should NOT work with live streams (I can not belive it worked for you in Internet Explorer)

At the moment we are developing a small windows application that will enable our users to watch BBC One and Hulu live! When it is ready there will be announcement in this forum.

Is this the MAC Address Issue I'm Encountering?

When I attempted to access Live BBC content I get that notification from the BBC that there's a conflict between the IP address associated with my MAC address and the Proxy Server IP address.

Eric, is this what you are fixing? I have heard of some applications that supply the proxy server IP address when the requesting site asks for the IP address associated with the Mac Address.

Yes, you could say we are

Yes, you could say we are fixing that.

iPlayer DOES work in IE

I'd like to confirm what Faceman's said: live iPlayer streams work in Internet Explorer and Chrome but they don't run in Firefox (neither using FoxyProxy, nor setting up Firefox directly in Options).

However, it's pretty annoying to wait for the page to load in IE before you can switch back to your direct connection (in time, before the live content starts playing). .pac files are also uneasy to use.

Episodes work in Firefox, too.

The Reason

Firefox & foxyproxy can't open BBC live streams because the stream itself uses your Windows connection, so you can force it to come through a proxy server by setting up your Internet Connection in Control Panel (plus you can use FoxyProxy for the page to load). It's necessary for the programme to play continuosly that the proxy be disabled after you've connected.

Hi, This problem will be

Hi,

This problem will be solved soon with the Windows application we are developing, as mentioned above. We will post here when it is ready. It will be free.

WIFI

Just to throw more confusion, my wifi connected computer will not stream with firefox but my media centre PC that is connected directly to the router WILL stream via Firefox. Just about to check if IE streams....need to get back to Wimbledon!

Update

Yup! It works a treat in HQ mode.
