Hi I downloaded Foxyproxy, admit I didn't know what I was doing
thought it might help with some malware problems i was having.
anyway now the foxyproxy server blocks use of IE and downloads to update other programs using IE.
I can manually turn it off each time but how do I change the settings to do so automatically?
Can you help me to uninstall Foxyproxy? I have tried to find instructions here but failed.
Many thanks for your help
D
well.
First off, If the problem could be fixed, would you still use foxyproxy?
if so you can disable it via the menu tools under addons. looking in the same spot is also a option to uninstall it.
I rarely use Windows, I now am going through removing a piece of malware transmitted via flashdrive from college to home. (I should have scanned it with my ubuntu linux machine first, opps)
all there computers carry Firefox, even then I carry my own copy of Firefox made for a USB Drive. when I get a viral infection that isn't caught first I try to clean the system. (rarely does that solve it.) when it doesn't fix it completely, I erase the hard disk & reinstall Windows.
I just Don't think this is the right task for me to help with if viruses are possibly to blame, as I only get them on my one test & homework rig. (unfortunately this breaks a three year virus free streak for me too.)
If you want foxyproxy & disabling works I'd do that first, if not uninstalling it would be your next bet.
then I would list the virus scanner(s) you use, the Operating System you use, (it would be something like 95 98 2000 XP Vista, since your using IE I doubt you would be using different system but feel free to correct me.) also the names of the viruses you had, if you know them. Reason to name the virus scanner is two fold, one some virus scanners behave badly (such as blocking the internet) after finding a virus.
& also because one company may call a virus by one name & another company calls the same bug by another. I hope your problem gets fixed & I may be able to help you, & if I didn't prefer chess to poker, I'd bet someone on this forum will.
Sorry for How long this post got
FoxyProxy doesn't block IE
FoxyProxy doesn't block IE downloads or other programs. It only has the ability to affect Firefox. But to install, just go to Tools->AddOns in Firefox and click the Uninstall button.

hi,
thanks for the detailed reply. I am sure you are busy enough without having to think about this.
in ans to your first question, no I don't need a proxy. I was trying to find a solution for why IE was not working after lots of malware probs.
Firefox is fine.
I installed it foxyproxy in Firefox
so then I first tried to disable in Firefox, same result (IE not working)
then I uninstalled it as a Firefox add on. (no difference to IE)
IE works now if I open and then manually change the settings in Tools Internet options connections to untick the box for proxy use.
But upon reboot the IE defaults back to proxy server setting (even though I have manually unticked it before)
I then went to try to reset defaults on IE. IE works now but I prob still need to reboot the computer to see if the problem still re-curs
thanks
Sorry, FoxyProxy has nothing
Sorry, FoxyProxy has nothing to do with IE. You should focus on other things to fix your problem besides FoxyProxy.
Funny - such voiciferous defense for Foxy!!!
I installed foxy but it was beyond my technical competency. I have since uninstalled firefox (don't flame. I like it but did it for a different reason irrelevant to this topic).
Foxy affects my Interenet explorer with frequent cribs about "past evaluation period. UNinstall" but I can't find the uninstall program. (in fact I found this sitre looking for an uninstall program for foxy). Let alone IE, it also affects my majicJack dialpad - perhaps it uses some other browser.
I will move on looking for other places where there is actually someone who knows.
Hi, I apologize for the
Hi,
I apologize for the abrupt answer.
What I can tell you is that FoxyProxy is a Firefox addon. As such, only Firefox uses FoxyProxy. IE and other software are simply not capable of using FoxyProxy for technical reasons. And since FoxyProxy has no evaluation period, yet you are receiving messages about an evaluation period expiring, that points even further to another culprit besides FoxyProxy.
