Hanging in "Error loading proxy configuration" loop

If Firefox is quit while in a state that gets its proxy configuration from an online script, and then Firefox is started while an internet connection is not yet established, the extension goes into a loop of endless error messages.
It bogs down the machine and the error messages block the usual access to changing the FoxyProxy state.
