Hi,
I'm running Ubuntu 8.10 (intrepid), with Firefox 3.0.19. I usually just leave it running. I recently stopped and restarted Firefox and it updated extensions (noscript, adblock, foxyproxy). foxyproxy started failing with these errors while attempting pop-up:
Error reading string resource:foxyproxy.options.label
Error reading string resource:foxyproxy.options.accesskey
Error reading string resource:foxyproxy.options.tooltip
Error reading string resource:foxyproxy.quickadd.label
Error reading string resource:foxyproxy.quickadd.accesskey
Error reading string resource:foxyproxy.quickadd.tooltip
Error reading string resource:foxyproxy.advancedmenus.accesskey
Error reading string resource:foxyproxy.advancedmenus.label
Error reading string resource:foxyproxy.advancedmenus.tooltip
resulting pop-up menu looks like
o Use proxies based on....
x Complete diable foxyproxy
undefined
undefined
o undefined
When accessing preference tabs, i get error:
Error writing settings file: (null). Ensure the path exists and that Firefox has write access, then restart Firefox. FoxProxy will not function until then.
foxyproxy.xml is one line that looks like
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"
I've tried importing xml from a vista machine with no success.
I've deleted and created new profiles multiple times, uninstalled and reinstalled foxyproxy multiple times.. i removed all other extensions, and I come back to the exact same failure.
I started firefox from command line and got following:
user@gx270:~$ firefox

So what changed recently? where you store the files? the names of the files or directories? ?
Also, I attempted to uninstalled and download an old copy, but the links all take me to the "latest and greatest". And what about that GPL??? Where are the sources?!?!?!?!
Very frustrating....looking at alternatives :(

re: gpl'd source.
I found the source through the foxyproxy FAQ.
Thanks,

You need to upgrade Firefox
You need to upgrade Firefox to at least 3.1. If you cannot upgrade Firefox, you can get old versions of FoxyProxy here:
FoxyProxy Basic: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/15023/versions/
FoxyProxy Standard: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2464/versions/
Unfortunately, this should have been marked in the release as only compatible with Firefoxs 3.1 and above, but I neglected to do testing with Firefox 3.0, so it was not. Had it been marked in the release, people running Firefox 3.0 would never been received the update.
I will try to add support
I will try to add support for Firefox 3.0 again, but it will be very difficult. Mozilla does not even support that version anymore (i.e., no security patches for it)
Eric
Many thanks!
This would be very nice! Because updating isn't that easy for me using debian stable (yeah, it is not the very modern linux, but it seems a stable one, important for me; I don't want to bother with os, I want them to work! In private like on the job ;-)
For a period I've tried to use firefox official instead of debian iceweasel, but it is a mess with every update of firefox... So I've decided to use iceweasel. Not that modern, but maintained by the debian staff.
Best regards an thanks for your great work!!

Make the older versions available again?
So now that I have FF 3 with a broken verison of FoxyProxy (broken for FF 3.0 anyways) I cannot get the older versions of FP from the addons site. All of the older versions have the same donate wrapper on them and only allow downloading of the latest version. So all my proxies are gone, and I have no recourse with FoxyProxy.
Can you fix that for us FF 3.0 holdouts?
WTF old versions does not
WTF old versions does not work!!! Same error now!
remove foxyproxy folder before downgrade
Hello goblin!
I've had the same thing. My solution was to remove the entire directory 'foxyproxy@eric.h.jung' in the extension folder before restoring it from the backup. I think after installing 2.21.4 there are some extra files which prevents 2.21.3 from working correctly.
The configuration is stored in 'foxyproxy.xml', placed in the same directory as the extension folder containing all your installed extensions.
Best regards
urmel
There is a bug with
There is a bug with addons.mozilla.org preventing you from downloading the older releases from that page.
So here are the download links directly:
FoxyProxy Standard 2.21.3
FoxyProxy Basic 1.7.3
