Exporting/importing the settings to another file

Hi,
I have two different systems and use both Firefox and SeaMonkey with Foxyproxy. Because one system is a laptop, it is not always where my shared storage is accessible, but I would like to easily share the settings between  all the browsers.
It would be really nice to have an export setting to a file, so if I update the settings on one browser | can then save those. Then after straing anbother browser on eith system, I could easily import the settings.
At present if you change the file location of the settings, it overwrites any copy that exists in the new location. This makes it very tiresome loading a new setting files updated on one browser into another one. I would love to have common for all browsers, but it is a real fiddle and effort to do this at present. An export/import settings menu item,m, or even just not overwriting the settings file if present when you change the location would help.
Many thanks for the software - it really does help. John.

Hi John, This is a good idea

Hi John,
This is a good idea (my personal opinon). I've added it to Eric's (the author) list of feature requests.
Thanks!

This would be a nice

This would be a nice addition to FoxyProxy, and I will add it.

Import/export settings

Thank you for the quick response to the idea. I look forward to the implimentation.
John.

Looking for this aswell

I am looking to use this to help curve ad bandwidth going over my proxy. I have a large list of ad domains that I want to force to load through a dummy proxy that fails on purpose. This will allow my proxy to tunnel what it needs for me to get my content but disable all ads on the web. In theory of course.
I would just set them all to localhost in the hosts file of my system but I do not have access to edit it.

Hi, How would import/export

Hi,

How would import/export help you? I don't understand. FoxyProxy already can help you without import/export.

Eric

Ad blocking

I don't have access to the hosts file on my computer at work so I would use my long list of ad servers host names and proxy them to a proxy server that doesn't exist causing them all to fail.
Also if I wanted to clear out and start fresh with a new install of firefox an exported list of them would be amazingly helpful in transporting it over to a new install.

That makes sense. In the

That makes sense. In the meantime, you can simply copy foxyproxy.xml between computers. It's portable.

Import/export settings

Well, I know I can copy the file of of one profile into another, but operating with two different computers and two different browser, having the ability to quickly export the current settings from saySeaMonkey and import to Firefow, when I have added/changed something, or to be able to have a central common file that a group of us can use by just importing it, saves much time trying to find where the current browser profile puts the file.
The change file location does not work for this, because it overwrites without question any file in the location, so it cannot be used as a method of sharing files. between different browsers/computers/ussrs.

Import/Export is now in

Import/Export is now in FoxyProxy Standard 2.22 and FoxyProxy Basic 1.8.

Import/export - great - but no quite yet!

That's great. BUT there is a bug. When you try and export, the file box that appears is the one for Import Settings fFom File and so it wants an existing file and not a new one to save to!
If you put a file in, the code then does actually export and overwrite the file. I carefully copied another foxyproxy.xml file so it did not completley lost the settings. What is needed is that the export code needs to be able to write a new file (and actually not say Import on the popup box). Very confusing otherwise.
... and Yes, I did get a successful import as well. Things say FireFox when I am using SeaMonkey, but that is not surprising. So at last I have two browsers on my home system running the same settings. nexy is doing it for the laptop and then sharing my file with others who can use it if they want.
Thank you.

Thanks for the bug report!

Is there a new bug fix

Is there a new bug fix planned for next days?

It's fixed, I just have to

It's fixed, I just have to release it to addons.mozilla.org.

Very nice - now much easier to keep browsers in step and properley sort out the proxies. Now would love a foxyproxy window that stayed the size you set it to and even one which when you select a proxy at the bottom and Move Up still displayed the selected proxy as opposed to the ones at the top. With a long list and a copied entryu appearing at the bottom, it is "fun" getting up the the righ place once you have edited it.
and yes thank you for the little bug fix too.

"Now would love a foxyproxy

"Now would love a foxyproxy window that stayed the size you set it to"
Yeah, sorry about that.

"when you select a proxy at the bottom and Move Up still displayed the selected proxy as opposed to the ones at the top. "
Can you please explain this in more detail?

Up/down,scrolling and shrinking windows.

OK simple. XCreate a list of say 20 entries, different enough to see what is happening. Seclect an entry at the top and copy it. This copy now appears at the bottom, just avbove the default entry. change the copy entry name so you know it is the copy.
Now suppose you want to move it up to the fourth in the list. When the "new" entry selected in the window, click on Move Up. The window now switches to view the top entries and the selected one is invisible.  So getting in the right place in a long list of say 40 entries when you want it as say 21 is a real task, because the window keeps scrolling back to the top. In fact if an entry is in the lower part of tghe list moving either way still means the window scrolls to the top and the entry becomes hdden. Enlarging the window dioes not work either, because the next action simply shrinks it agaibn and displays just the first 13/14 entries.
Does that help explain. Probably should be in a new bug forum. Do move it ro any reply there.
With thanks John.

I understand. Sounds very

I understand. Sounds very annoying. I will see what I can do to fix it.
