I am afraid yes, they will see the target URL anyway even if you use HTTP proxy. On the other hand if the transmission is performed via encrypted SSL link no URLs are parseble.
TOR is generally a good initiative. If you configure it properly (which is not easy to do IMHO) you will make your connection more secure. The disadvantages are: 1) low speed 2) difficult to configure properly.
