Dear Admin,
A big thank you for your step by step instructions for using the BBC iplayer using foxy proxy. I can now succesfully stream BBC content from China.
I think it would be most helpful if you could help us get the 40D and other sites such as ITV and TV Catchup with step by step instructions....
Can you post the pattern URLs here for reference?
I look forward to hearing from you guys...
Cheers
Peter
Hi Peter, I have never heard
Hi Peter,
I have never heard of 40D and ITV and TV Catchup.
Eric
TV Catchup, 4OD, ITV
Hi Eric,
The other sites I mentioned are the alternative broadcasters in the UK (which also require a UK ISP via proxy). They also offer 'catch-up' services on their programs that have been aired on their channels. I would love to watch them but not sure about the URL patterns required. TVCatchup is a collection of all the channels in the UK but is aired 'live' over the stream so you have to watch the programs as they come on.
I would be grateful if you could look at the following sites and give me some pointers. I think if we can figure this out alot of expats on this side of the world will be directed to your site to watch their favourite TV shows! Thanks Foxy Proxy!

I look forward to your reply,

4OD, Demand 5,
Has anyone been able to establish the patterns for any of the above?
I would really appreciate someone's kind assistance
ITV iplayer
Hi,
I have the same problem. I have managed to set up the BBC iplayer thanks to your excellent instructions but cannot get the ITV iplayer to work. I would be most grateful to knowing how to do this as well.

Anita
Hi Anita, Yes, I will post
Hi Anita,
Yes, I will post patterns for those sites, too, but in a few days. I need to find the time to test it. Please check again in a few days.
Thanks,
Eric

could you help me please?

Hi, Since I haven't found
Hi,
Since I haven't found time to do this myself, here are instructions for you to find the patterns yourself:
1. Enable logging in FoxyProxy (Ctrl+F2 to open FoxyProxy then go to the Logging tab and click the "Enabled" checkbox). Ensure "Do not store or display URLs" is UNCHECKED.
2. Play vide from desired website in Firefox
3. Click "Refresh" in the FoxyProxy logging tab. You will see the URL from which the video played / streamed. This is the URL you should create a pattern for.
Let me know if you need help writing patterns.
Eric
I'm willing to give this a
I'm willing to give this a go for the ITV website:
http://www.itv.com/ITVPlayer/default.html
I was able to log the URLs but how do I know which patterns are related to geographic location. I went through the list, nothing seemed obvious. I tried all of the URLs with a wildcard suffix but for every one I tried I got the unable to play, error message.
Thanks for your help.
Got stuck...
Ok....So I have been working on trying to find the patterns for www.channel4.com.
I have been able to locate 3 URLs that seems checking for the geographic location.
I have followed the instruction on Channel4:s site for downloading the plug-in needed to watch using Firefox.
When I push the PLAY-button a new window appears and the WMP starts downloading "Media Usage Rights".
After that I get a pop-up window named "Media Usage Rights Acquisition" telling me the following:
"Sorry
You need to be within the UKor the Republic of Ireland to watch Channel 4 programmes.
Until you come ashore, to watch TV clips, please click here. To find out more visit our help section at help.channel4.com."
I am currently stuck here and I can not honestly get past this point.
Need som feedback on how to bypass the "Media Usage Rights Acquisition".
Cheers
Richie
Brilliant, THANKS for your
Brilliant, THANKS for your help Eric. Seems to work for me. I don´t understand what the comments about geographic locations mean? So can´t really help there, sorry.
Thanks again
Anita
Anita, please post your
Anita, please post your patterns for all to share. Also, I will put them in the FoxyProxy FAQ. Thanks!!
C'mon Guys..
C'mon guys!
We need some help here!
Especially you Anita. If you know anything to make this work, then post the patterns!

I am going though some older patterns I had & updating some that quit working. then I have to post the results on a new section of the forum called Share Your Patterns if someone finds out a new pattern that works, please add it.
I will look at
ITV first, due to the fact that channel4's site seems to try to tie itself to IE & WMP's proxy settings. Based on the comment above.
once all of this happens I'll also post my results here.
thanks!!
thanks!!
ITV Catchup
Y'know there is no reason why the BBC pattern would not work for ITV catchup, as long as you have a good UK proxy then all you need to do is change FoxyProxy (right click and change the setting to "use Proxy "BBC iPlayer" for all URLs) whenever you want to access the ITV site, this does work, but you need to be patient. I know its nice to configure it properly, only to kick in when you go to the specific site but sometimes thats a luxury.
ITV Player
Here are the pattern's for ITV player
*http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/*
*http://www.itv.com/*
works great for me and no need to "right click and change the setting to "use Proxy "BBC iPlayer" for all URLs"

ITV Player Comment above
LOL Sorry I meant ITV Catchup! in the above comment not ITV Player!
You get what i meant ;-)
The Solution
Hi,
I can confirm that the 4oD application uses MS Internet Explorer proxy settings (its probably just IE hosted in a winform.)
To use 4oD from abroad just set your IE proxy to a UK machine and away you go.
If that's the case, you
If that's the case, you should use our Carpet Bomb Script to easily switch the proxy on/off.

Hi, Been trying to get this site working on laptop and on Ipod, Wanted it for the Ipod as Ipod doesnt have flash But Tvcatchup.com tells me non UK access denied, I read this on there forum -
A proxy is a server which people use as an intermediary server, so that they can access sites that would otherwise block them on the basis of their geographic location, amongst other things.
In most instances, the use of a proxy sets out to anonymise the user, by masking or cloaking their real IP address. Users of TVC should be aware that any anonymity provided only relates to the referral (HTTP) address, not to the destination (RTMP) address of streamed or other downstream content, and offers little more than a flimsy illusion of privacy. We are able to tell with absolute accuracy whether or not you are watching video from the UK or overseas and what your real IP address is.
If you are unsure whether you are using a proxy service, look at the link you type into your browser to get to this site. If it is anything other than www.tvcatchup.com, then you are using a proxy or a redirect. Try coming directly to the site instead.
If you cannot get a stream or receive a message telling you so, then you are either using a proxy service from overseas or an untrusted service, such as the manydodgy VPNs that are springing up to take advantage of illegal viewing.
Our site terms and conditions expressly forbid access to this site from outside of the country in which the broadcast was originally intended, in other words, the UK or, when lawful, anywhere in Europe. This is not a matter of our own choosing, the site operates under very strict legislation and it is unreasonable to expect us to jeopardise the site for everyone for the benefit of a handful of people who contribute nothing to either the site or broadcasters in this country.
We recognise that users may have perfectly legitimate reasons to use a proxy (or VPN): They may be situated in schools, colleges, universities, hotels, or places of work where a non-geographically distinct IP address is provided and would otherwise be blocked. They may be using one of the ISPs who do not provide geographically accurate IP addresses, such as AOL, Tiscali, Orange or Sprint, or their employer may be doing so. Or the website may be blocked from direct access by their educational establishments, place or work or wherever, or routed through a content filtering proxy. In such circumstances we accept that users have no option other than to use a proxy service, and we have absolutely no problem with that.
Whereas VPNs are more secure from a user point of view, they are still visible to our security system. Many companies or institutions use VPNs for perfectly lawful reasons, and therefore their use will be deemed legitimate unless otherwise apparent.
We are required to make enquiries of anyone whose use of a proxy or VPN (to view streams, not participate in the forum) comes to our attention, please be aware of this and understand that we may have to block such users if the use to which they put our services gives us cause for concern. Please also bear in mind that many services offering unauthorised access to this site from overseas are likely to be blocked in the foreseeable future.
Thank you for taking the trouble of reading this, the chances are that it doesn't effect you. Our wish is simply for us all to have an easy life and to protect the interests of the majority of users by complying with the law.
Regards
Mark
