I'm using FoxyProxy on FireFox 3.0.10 on Windows XP Pro (sp3) with a paid proxy. I have set this up identically at home and work, but for some reason, I can listen to BBC iPlayer RADIO at home, but not at work. I can watch BBC iPlayer tv at both locations. I assume that this has something to with the iPlayer running in Flash, but that's just a guess. I have the patterns listed in http://foxyproxy.mozdev.org/drupal/content/bbc-iplayer installed in both locations. I've read this thread (http://foxyproxy.mozdev.org/drupal/content/re-uk-proxy-doesnt-allow-rest...) and added the patterns http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport* and http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/*. At work I've also installed the Windows Script from this thread (http://foxyproxy.mozdev.org/proxyservice/iplayer-and-hulu.html), although I didn't at home.
WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO to get BBC *RADIO* to work?
Upgrade RealPlay - Partially Fixes Prob
Just for grins, I downloaded the latest version of Flash and restarted my browser. That did not change anything. Next I downloaded the latest version of RealPlayer. I was already at 11.x, but not at the very latest minor revision. That allowed me to start listening to BBC Radio Five Live on the BBC iPlayer -- but only until today's Manchester United versus Wigan football (soccer) match. As soon as the clock struck 20:00 GMT, the radio coverage changed to the nag, "Due to contractual obligations...." telling me that I wouldn't be able to hear the game.
Partial success.
Partial failure.
The reason I have a paid proxy is so that I can listen to and watch everything which would be available to me if I were at my home in England. Being away from home shouldn't bar me from what I'd get for free if I were. I want a solution which will *work* for all BBC iPlayer content. Just tell me who I have to pay; who I have to kill to get that.
Five Live -- Proxy Failure versus BBC NOT Streaming
So when I'm listening to Five Live using my paid proxy and everything is working brilliantly, then minutes before the kickoff of Man. Utd. vs. Wigan on Five Live and I get this:
This is five live, the UK's home of live news and live sport. Unfortunately, due to contractual obligations, we cannot bring you the event that's currently live on air. However, you can hear it on 909 and 693 am, on digital tv and on digital radio. There are many events that we do stream online. To find out which events, check the listings online.
Does the above mean that I couldn't even hear it on the internet if I were home in England? That nobody is hearing that over the internet? That it's not a proxy failure? Until now, I hadn't really listened closely to the failure message. I just assumed it to be a proxy failure; that BBC thought I was not in the UK. Now I wonder if actually my proxy is working fine; that the problem is that the BBC is simply not streaming the football match *ANYWHERE*.
Bloody hell.
Sounds like the BBC didn't
Sounds like the BBC didn't stream that match over the internet.... AT ALL. This is common in America, too, especially with sports games. Best way to confirm is to ask a friend/colleague back home to tune in over the internet next time there's a match.
