Hi,
I've set up foxyproxy and Tor in order to access the BBC iPlayer website.
It works extremely well when streaming and is much faster than Tor and Privoxy.
But I'm having a small problem with downloading the files instead of streaming.
When I click on the download link nothing happens.
After much hair-pulling and fiddling I have found a workaround,
If I browse to the page with froxyproxy turned on (in order to acces the download links),
and then turn off foxyproy, the links work and the download starts.
If I use Privoxy instead of foxyproxy the links also work (but its really slow).
Whilst this is minor problem I was hoping that someone might have encountered this before and have a quick fix for me :).
Thanks
when using the patterns
when using the patterns listed Here I had no problem with the download link, maybe this was just me. I am not aware of a pattern for it (unless that covers it.) there are some other sites that I am working on at the moment. it seems you have a fix even if it's a few more clicks of the mouse. after I get some other site patterns in I'll see what can be done.
Thanks for your reply, I was
Thanks for your reply,
I was in fact using different patterns although I had seen that post I thought they were the same....
It all works as it should now :). My bad...
I've just sussed out how to strip out the DRM - so I'm a happy bunny now!!!
I look forward to any other sites you might find have patterns.
Cheers

A little update... I was new
A little update...
I was new to foxyproxy and in fact had the proxy activated for ALL urls (so the download button worked),
However when I realised this and switched it back to patterns - the download button stopped working again. Thanks to the magic of logging I now know that the download button also needs to be proxied with this pattern
BBC iPlayer Download Button
http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediaselector/4/js/download/*
will update so that there
will update so that there are three patterns,
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/*
http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediaselector/4/mtis/stream*
http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediaselector/4/js/download/*
I am still stateside, didn't have any problems. (based on my patterns, my proxies are another story)
I wonder why I haven't oh well, if i have problems, I'll try this.
Thanks for sharing your patterns.

I live in Mauritius! I use
I live in Mauritius! I use the Tor (Vidalia bundle) network and force it to use exitnodes in the UK.
It's a little slow, but it works.... The slowness (plus limited adsl speed) is the reason I download over streaming, hence the problems I was having.
I am able to overcome the slow browsing by using FoxyProxy, so that I only browse via the Tor network on certain pages, and by using a local proxy cache server (Polipo), to speed up already downloaded pages. The downloads themselves come from http://directdl.iplayer.bbc.co.uk/* - so they connect directly and you will get full-speed downloads.
Like I mentioned this is just for the download options. So if you just stream, there would be no need for it.
I've also used tor for 4od, although it's a bit fussier as to which exitnodes I use.
The only other thing is that you will need, is that your IE proxy settings are set to Tor as well because MediaPlayer aquires its DRM licenses through these settings, before the file will play.

Re: I live in Mauritius! - I've also used tor for 4od,
I'd be really grateful if you would let me know how you access 4oD and whether you have been able to access Channel 5 and TVCatchup.com also.
can't download
i m on free 3 day trial of foxyproxy service.
it works very well except whenever I tired to download, it says"the program is available to download by users within UK".
Is there anyway I can sort this out?
Many thanks in advance.
sorry typo
>whenever I tired to download--> whenever I tried to download.
It sounds like the download
It sounds like the download isn't going through the proxy server, but your direct internet connection. Is FoxyProxy set to "Use Proxy 'New Proxy' for All URLs"?
If you want to download
If you want to download videos using the BBC iPlayer Desktop application follow this tutorial.
Re: If you want to download - Carpet Bomb
Excuse my ignorance but when I double click "foxyproxy-setup.wsf" it asks me to enter my proxy and port, where do I obtain these details from please ?
You need to get a proxy
You need to get a proxy server. There is a list of free ones here, paid ones here. You can also run your own, or search google for more.
